Palmer Township,Pa-- Multiple departments working on the 3rd alarm fire at National Plastics & Manufacturing Co. at 11 McFadden Road.
Fire departments were alerted shortly before noon today for a reported dumpster fire. Arriving Palmer Township Fire Commissioner found a large plastic pile roughly 50x150 burning out of control and upgraded the assignment to a 1st alarm. First due ladder from Palmer took the plug and went to work with master streams and the ladder pipe operations the next due engine from Tatamy took the 2nd plug and supplied Nazareth's truck for ladder pipe and master stream operations. Fire crews went to work interior for extension into the building but had to back out after stacked piles of carboard and plastic containers were unstable. Units had to go to an extensive defensive operations requiring command to upgrade the assignment to a 2nd and eventually 5 alarms. Crews worked for hours on the fire using heavy machinery to pull the piles apart, the fire was called under control by late afternoon.
